More importantly: people actually do form the #Rettungsgasse (as it is called)!

Same principle elsewhere in central #Europe (+ #Switzerland + recently #Belgium), as opposed to #France & #UK where the hard shoulder is used.

PS: in #Germany the hard shoulder is sometimes used as an extra lane during rush hour, which is also when prangs tend to occur.
